Minutes:  July 20, 2004

In attendance:   Rev. Carole McGowan; Don Partridge; Don Noack; Diane Butler; Rev. Brian Taylor; Patricia Riggins;

Unable to attend: Rev. Gary Meade; Jim Tryon

Discussion and Actions taken:

1.       Still waiting on papers of incorporation. While the check has been cashed by the state, they have not record of the papers. Will submit again as expedited with a copy of payment.

2.       Resolution to be presented at General Convention:

Resolve that: The Diocese of the Rio Grande is committed to the discipline, faith and unity of The Episcopal Church USA as the American expression of the rich and diverse Anglican tradition.

·         Brian will call Diocesan office to verify dates and process for submission

3.       August Meetings

A.      Set dates in Northern diocese for 8/16, 8/17 or 8/18.

B.       PJR will contact the Cathedral to see if they will host one of those dates and then St. Bede’s for the other date. Time will be 7-8:30pm (set up around 6:30 and clean up from 8:30-9)

C.      Need to get information to Diane asap so it can get posted and mailed out

D.      Carole will visit parishes in the more rural parts of the state:  Silver City; Alpine etc.

4.       General focus of the sessions

A.      Review status of nominations and process

B.       Solicit names of delegates and wardens from the parishes in attendance

C.      Communicate how this is part of long-term strategy to lead up to the convention and afterwards. Focus:  regardless of who is elected Bishop there is a role for the types of discussions that have been occurring.

D.      Small group work to take a draft report card with major “bins” of categories and ask groups to fill in how the candidates should be assessed. Use the documentation from original VMRG meetings, Days of Discernment etc. Flesh out the values that have been stated.

E.       Emphasize the role that each participant must play in the election; the system won’t do it for them.

5.       Discussed meetings in September once the final set of candidates is know and preparation for the interview process.

6.       Agreed to give VM USA $100 to maintain their web site.

Next Meeting:  8/3/04 at St. Thomas

Items for discussion: Main focus August Activities

  1. Follow up on articles of incorporation
  2. August meeting agenda and process finalization
  3. Look to September meetings.
